Shaohua Yang, male, MD, Ph.D., Post doctoral (mentored by Dr. Zhongcheng Wang). Dr. Yang graduated from Beijing Medical University School of Medicine (now the Peking University Health Science Center) in 1991. He finished his neurosurgery residency training in the Department of Neurosurgery at Beijing Tiantan Hospital in 1996, and was appointed as an attending neurosurgeon thereafter. During his residency training and practice as a neurosurgeon, Dr. Yang was supervised directly by Dr. Zhongcheng Wang (member of Chinese Academy of Engineering) in several projects including brainstem tumor, intramedullary spinal cord tumor, and skull base tumor. He has received two regional awards and one national award for the development of science and technology. Dr. Yang worked as a fellow in the Department of Neurosurgery at University of Florida from 1997 to 2000, and joined the graduate school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 2000. He obtained his Ph.D. in neuroscience and pharmacology in 2004 and was appointed as an assistant professor (tenure track) at the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience University of North Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Yang’s research focuses on the mechanism and treatment of ischemic stroke and vascular dementia, immunotherapy for glioma. He has published over 50 peer reviewed articles in the most prestigious journals including neuron, PNAS, JBC, Journal of Neurosurgery, and stroke. Dr. Yang has been serving as reviewer board in many international peer reviewed journal including Stroke, Journal of Neurochemistry, Brain Research, Neurobiology of Aging, BBA-Molecular Cell Research, Neurobiology of Disease, Mediator of Inflammation, Neuroscience letter, Experimental Biology and Emerging Drugs, Neurochemical Research, and Acta Pharmacologica Sinica. He has completed research projects with close to $1 million fund. His current researches are funded mainly by National Health Institute of the United States of America with a total close to $5 million.
